Trump revealed an interview that it was “somebody who was very close to” the suspect who turned him in.

On Friday morning, President Donald Trump announced that "I think, with a high degree of certainty, we have him," referring to the suspect wanted for the Wednesday assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. Law enforcement sources told the New York Post that the suspect arrested was 22-year-old Utah local Tyler Robinson.
At a Friday morning press conference, Utah Governor Spencer Cox announced that Robinson's father spoke with a family friend and "confessed to them or implied that he had committed the incident." That information was relayed to authorities. Additional surveillance footage reviewed by investigators showed Robinson arriving at the UVU campus just before 8:30 am local time, driving a gray Dodge Challenger on the morning of the shooting. He was seen wearing a maroon t-shirt, light colored shorts, a black hat with a white logo, and light colored shoes, clothing that he was also observed wearing when encountered by investigators in Washington County on September 12.

View on X"Investigators interviewed a family member of Robinson, who stated that Robinson had become more political in recent years. The family member referenced a recent incident in which Robinson came to dinner, prior to September 10, and in that conversation with another family member, Robinson mentioned Charlie Kirk was coming to UVU. They talked about why they didn't like him and the viewpoints that he had. The family member also stated Kirk was full of hate and spreading hate. The family member also confirmed Robinson had a gray Dodge Challenger."

View on XTrump revealed in the Fox and Friends interview that it was "somebody who was very close to" the suspect who turned him in. "Somebody that was very close to him said, 'Hmm, that's him.' And essentially went to the father, who went to a US Marshal, who was fantastic, by the way. And the person was involved with law enforcement, but was a person of faith, a minister, and brought him to a US Marshal who was fantastic."
FBI Salt Lake City released additional photos, as well as video, from the time of the shooting depicting the suspect. The surveillance video, timestamped 12:23 pm local time, showed a person dressed in dark clothing running across a building rooftop at Utah Valley University, where Kirk was hosting an event. The suspect is seen lowering himself off the roof before running away.

View on XThe suspect is believed to have fired a single shot from an elevated position around 200 yards away from the tent where Kirk was engaging with the crowd, authorities told the outlet. Law enforcement officials have said that the weapon believed to have been used in the assassination, a bolt-action rifle, was found in nearby woods. Inscribed on unused ammunition were "transgender and anti-fascist ideology." This is a breaking story. Please refresh the page for updates.
