CNN releases statement in response to revelations about Chris Cuomo from NY AG

The network released a statement which read, "The thousands of pages of additional transcripts and exhibits that were released today by the NY Attorney General deserves a thorough review and consideration. We will be having conversations and seeking additional clarity about their significance as they relate to CNN over the next several days."

Documents revealed that the younger Cuomo was "actively in touch" with Melissa DeRosa, who was still Andrew Cuomo's top aide at the time, and gave her statements to be used by his older brother, as well as leads on his various accusers.

According to CNBC, "Chris Cuomo told investigators that he engaged with what he described as "sources" regarding the various allegations against his brother that were described in at least one news article, according to the records. He also said he talked to his sources about yet-to-be-published stories from media outlets."

"I would – when asked, I would reach out to sources, other journalists, to see if they had heard of anybody else coming out," the junior Cuomo told investigators.

Chris Cuomo also guided DeRosa on writing statements for his older brother.

On March 12, Chris Cuomo sent a text message to DeRosa with a full written statement for the embattled New York governor.

"I will not resign, I cannot resign. I understand the political pressure I understand the stakes of political warfare, and that’s what this is … And I understand the conformity that can be forced by cancel culture," the texted statement reads.

Andrew Cuomo, however, did end up resigning back in August, after a damning report was released by New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Chris Cuomo had previously downplayed his role in helping his brother weather the scandals. He said during a segment on his show in August following his brother’s resignation, "I was there to listen and offer my take and my advice to my brother was simple and consistent. Own what you did, tell people what you'll do to be better, be contrite and finally, accept that it doesn't matter what you intended, what matters is how your actions and words were perceived. There are critics saying things about me, many unsupported but know this, my position has never changed. I never misled anyone about the information I was delivering or not delivering on this program. I never attacked nor encouraged anyone to attack any woman who came forward. I never made calls to the press about my brother's situation. I never influenced or attempted to control CNN's coverage of my family."

The investigation into the multiple instances of workplace sexual misconduct against Andrew Cuomo, with possible criminal consequences, is still ongoing.

Chris Cuomo was recently accused of sexual harassment by veteran TV news producer Shelley Ross, who alleged he grabbed her buttock in 2005 while they both worked at ABC News.
