The latest person to be caught on video ripping down flyers showing Hamas hostages has been revealed to be a teaching assistant (TA) at the University of Southern California and the daughter of a Democratic Mayor in Washington state.
Originally from Redmond, WA, Rachel Birney, a USC Physics TA, giggled while tearing down the flyers on campus when she was confronted by someone with a camera.

View on XThe flyers have been posted around the world advocating for a return of the over 200 hostages taken by Hamas during the terrorist massacre of Israelis on Oct. 7. Hundreds of videos have gone viral of Hamas supporters tearing down the flyers.
After the video went viral, USC said in a statement, “We are aware of a social media post of a person removing posters from what appears to be a building on our campus. We know this is upsetting to many of you and encourage everyone in the USC community to respect others’ views/act with civility towards each other.”
The statement continued, “We are looking into this but are prohibited from providing additional information due to student privacy laws. You can learn more about our resources, reassurances, and answers to help you navigate USC.”
Her mother Angela Birney is the Democratic Mayor of Redmond, WA, and was endorsed by the Progressive Voters Guide.
She was criticized by constituents for supporting a controversial plan to turn a motel into a homeless shelter without informing the community or providing opportunity for public comment. The converted motels are almost always accompanied by an uptick in crime, open-air drug use, homeless activity, and vagrancy.
In 2020, she endorsed the far-left radical state senator Marko Liias in his unsuccessful campaign for lieutenant governor.
Earlier this year, despite massive pushback, Liias pushed forward controversial Senate Bill 5599, which critics say encourages minors to run away from home to receive "gender-affirming" care and "maternity services" without parental consent and at taxpayer expense, namely sex changes and abortion.
Birney was endorsed by far-left Democratic State Sen. Manka Dhingra, chair of the Senate Law & Justice Committee and deputy majority leader of the Washington State Senate, who refused to let a bill advance that would have fixed Washington’s flawed police pursuit reforms.
The reforms, which prevented officers from pursuing suspects, led to a massive spike in crime, especially auto theft. Dhingra attempted to defend her position by citing faulty data that falsely claimed the original legislation saved lives, a “study” that was slammed by experts and pulled from websites shortly thereafter.
Birney is cruising to re-election in Tuesday’s contest, garnering 71 percent of the vote. The video of her daughter tearing down the flyers went viral the day after the election.

View on XIn response to the backlash over her daughter's actions, Birney shut down her social media accounts and campaign website and issued a brief statement to The Ari Hoffman Show on 570 KVI: "Concerns have been raised about my and my family’s values regarding antisemitism. As a family, we support people from all backgrounds and cultures. People come to Redmond from all over the world and I want to assure them, that no matter their background Redmond will always be a safe and supportive home for all."
