GOP lawmakers move to make Trump’s anti-DEI measures law

According to a press release from Cloud, the lawmakers have introduced the "Dismantle DEI Act, a bill to codify into law President Trump’s agenda dismantling so-called Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs across the federal government."

When Trump took office, he issued a slew of executive orders, including Executive Order 14151, which mandated that DEI programs across the federal government would come to an end. The order from Trump ordered the termination of all "DEI, DEIA, and 'environmental justice' offices and positions" across executive agencies as well as end contracts related to DEI.

Cloud said that the bill he is introducing with Schmitt centers on "restoring common sense, ensuring taxpayer dollars are used wisely, and refocusing the federal government on serving all Americans fairly."

“DEI was never about fairness or opportunity — it was a Trojan horse for left-wing political social engineering that fosters division, not unity,” Cloud later added. “Hiring and promotion should be because of someone’s merit, excellence, and hard work, regardless of race, religion, or creed.”

Schmitt said of the bill, “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs have plagued our federal government, academic institutions, and other aspects of our society, cheapening standards while disregarding merit.”

“Moreover, taxpayer dollars should not be wasted on this poisonous, divisive ideology. These programs have absolutely no business in our federal government, and I am proud to reintroduce this critical bill that will save taxpayer dollars and put a stop to the DEI madness,” he added.

Heritage Action Executive Vice President Ryan Walker said of the bill from Schmitt and Cloud, “The American people have had enough of the political spin and DEI indoctrination that has made our country weaker and more divided than ever. Voters are relying on Congress to keep their promises and codify President Trump’s efforts to stop the Left’s radical agenda from permeating further across the country."

The Trump administration, as he has taken office, has moved fast to root out DEI as well as other left-wing policies in the federal government. The moves have been part of a larger mission to cut back on spending, eliminate waste, and improve efficiency in Washington, DC.
