Juror reveals that lone holdout in Lindsay Clancy trial was a black man, only ‘person of color’ on jury

"I'm curious about the jurors themselves," said King, "because we know it was 9 women, 3 men, what was the age range, what was the racial make up, I haven't heard any of that, what was it?"

"Seventy-ish to 22," Paula Devlin revealed. "And one person of color and then everybody else was white. A lot of the jurors had children."

"One person of color. Was the person of color a woman or a man?" King asked.

"A man," Devlin replied.

"Is the holdout juror a person of— a black man?" King asked.

"Yes," Devlin said.

"A black man is the holdout juror?" King asked with surprise.

"Yes," Devlin confirmed.

"Whoa. I have to sit with that for just a second," King said.

Previous jurors have come forward to speak to the press, all of them those who tried to pressure the holdout juror, now known to be a black man, to vote to find Lindsay Clancy not guilty by reason of insanity for the murder of her three children. It was revealed during those interviews at the beginning of deliberations, three jurors believed that Clancy was criminally guilty of those three murders, but that the others sought to convince them to find her not guilty and they moved their positions.

This one man would not. During the sixth day of deliberations, the jury forewomen sent a note to Judge William Sullivan saying that she did not believe that lone juror was following the court's instructions on reasonable doubt. She revealed later during an interview that she believed he had expressed that he had doubt about Clancy's criminal culpability and started "filling out the forms" because she was "so excited" they had come to a decision.

That juror, she said, then corrected her and said that he was not changing his vote and the deliberations ended in a mistrial. On September 29, the parties will be back in court to determine the next steps for the case. Clancy remains in custody. She was charged with the killing of her three children, ages 18 months, 3-years-old, and 5-years-old. Her defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, argued that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis when she sent her husband out of the house to run errands then took each of them, one by one, to the basement and strangled them with exercise bands in January 2023.
