More sex scandal evidence surfaces, damaging Democrat Cal Cunningham’s Senate bid

Last Thursday, text messages between Cunningham and Arlene Guzman Todd, a public relations specialist, came to light. Later, further evidence surfaced indicating that the relationship had gone beyond the virtual, and that the two of them had been sexually intimate.

According to AP News, an unnamed attorney living in the state of North Carolina also came forward and disclosed that she was aware of a friend of hers who was also having an affair with Cunningham.

In the latest revealed round of text messages, Guzman Todd talked about meeting Cunningham in person twice. The first time was in Los Angeles CA in March, and the second time was in North Carolina in July, where the intimacy occurred in Cunningham's family home, which Guzman Todd described as "weird".

Cunningham claimed on Thursday that the text messages were of a personal nature and that he should be entitled to his privacy.

Cunningham is a Lieutenant Colonel with the Army Reserve, and as such, the Army Reserve has opened an investigation into the matter surrounding these texts.

"The Army Reserve is investigating the matters involving Lt. Col. James Cunningham. As such, we are unable to provide further details at this time," commented Simon Flake, the Chief of Media Relations and Public Information for the Army Reserve Strategic Communications.

Cunningham dropped out of a town hall event on Monday, and then on Tuesday backed out of a fundraising event. It is also reported that he has defunded his fundraising ad campaign.

This Senate race has been hotly contested up until now and is seen as a key part of the Democrat strategy to try and take back the Senate, which currently has a 53-47 Republican majority.
