New Twitter verification system to launch next week
“Sorry for the delay, we’re tentatively launching Verified on Friday next week. Gold check for companies, grey check for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not),” Musk said.

Twitter owner Elon Musk on Friday provided more details on his plans for verifying Twitter accounts and how that plan will distinguish users with the same name and differentiate those who are verified through an organization versus those who pay through a subscription service.
After former Clinton advisor Robert Reich complained about Musk's leadership, Musk replied "Interesting … now pay $8" which prompted user Cryptoking to ask about the verification system. Musk wrote, "Sorry for the delay, we're tentatively launching Verified on Friday next week. Gold check for companies, grey check for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not) and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates. Painful, but necessary."

Otherwise confusion results."

View on XUnder Musk's revamped plan Twitter individual users will have a blue checkmark regardless of their verification due to affiliation with "government, news, entertainment, or another designated category" or those verified because of subscription to Twitter Blue.
If a Twitter user hovers their mouse over the blue checkmark of anyone they can see what category they are in.
"So every individual verified as a public official or $8 payment will have the same check? Will they be customizable? Will there be a red check for those that commit fraud but verified #NYT?" Cryptoking asked.
"All verified individual humans will have same blue check, as boundary of what constitutes 'notable' is otherwise too subjective. Individuals can have secondary tiny logo showing they belong to an org if verified as such by that org. Longer explanation next week," Musk replied.
