Over 300,000 illegal immigrant encounters with Border Control at US-Mexico border in December: report

Every month of Fiscal Year 2024 has thus far outpaced FY2023 as the crisis at the southern border shows no signs of letting up.

According to Fox News, sources familiar with the data collected by Customs and Border Protection confirmed that 302,000 encounters were recorded in December, though the numbers have not yet been released to the public.

News Nation's Ali Bradley broke down the numbers, revealing that the vast majority of encounters were recorded between, not at, official ports of entry.

Only around 52,000 migrants attempted to make their way into the United States via actual border crossings, with the other 250,000 being caught trying to sneak through illegally.

The highest number of encounters, 80,000, took place in the Tucson Sector, which covers around three quarters of Arizona. The Del Rio Sector, which includes central Texas and is home to the infamous Eagle Pass crossing, recorded 71,000 crossings.

These two were by far the busiest, with the third place El Centro Sector, which includes San Diego, recording less than half as many encounters.

December's numbers brings the total for the first quarter of FY2024 to over 785,000. Fox News' Bill Melugin pointed out that this was "a population size bigger than Seattle in just three months."

"All records being blown out of the water under the Biden admin as the crisis gets worse," he added.

Fiscal Year 2023 was indeed a record-breaking year at the southern border, and by the end of it, while the Biden administration vowed to take action, it also threatened to prevent Texas from doing what the federal government had failed to do, warning Gov. Greg Abbott that he would be sued if he didn't do away with a set of new laws that would have made crossing into his state illegally a crime.
