Patrick Clancy reveals his 8-month-old son Callan died in his arms as he forgave his wife for killing their 3 children

The grieving father said that doctors told him that they were able to get a heartbeat from his 8-month-old son after his two other children, 5-year-old Cora and 3-year-old Dawson, were pronounced deceased, but that he did not get the full picture of the extent of his son's fate until arriving at the hospital.

"So, I didn't have all the details of Callan's condition. I just knew that they got a heartbeat back. So I remember ... I really thought there was a chance that Callan would live. And I remember just thinking, 'Just gimme one. Just gimme one kid, and I would raise him as best I could, and I would give him the best life I possibly could. I'd tell him about his brother and sister.' And I was holding out hope for that. And then when I got to the hospital, I saw the doctor. I saw the look on her face, and I knew that it wasn't gonna be a good prognosis."

Clancy also spoke about what he believed about the killings and whether he thought that his ex-wife had been impacted by mental illness when she killed their children.

"I saw headlines that said, you know, 'Killer Mom,' and 'Baby Murderer,' 'Monster.' And none of them were accurate. I believe that it was her mental illness that caused that. So I shared those words. And I think when it comes to forgiveness, I also felt that if I didn't get there, I would be eaten up inside forever," he said.

Clancy, speaking to 60 Minutes interviewer Ross Douthat, was asked, "Did you ask Lindsay why she did it?"

Clancy said, "I asked her if she remembered it." He went on to say that his ex-wife said, "'it was like a dream.' And-- she remembered it much in the way you would remember a dream after waking up."

The grieving father also said that Lindsay never asked him for forgiveness. "Has she ever asked for your forgiveness?" Douthat asked him.

"No. But I gave it to her," Clancy replied.

Despite Lindsay's own admission that she killed the children—claiming that she was in the throes of postpartum psychosis—many online have targeted Patrick Clancy with conspiracy theories that he was somehow responsible for his children's deaths.

"It's deeply harmful to the legacy of my children. It is a huge distraction from what really matters here, which is perinatal mental health. And it's done real harm to real people, myself included but also others," Clancy said when he was asked about those who spread the false information online.

When he was asked how that has impacted him, he said, "It's painful to see. And it makes it difficult to be in public and it's possible that some of those people after seeing lie after lie after lie, they start to believe it and that's what we're left with."
