Post-debate New York Times/Siena poll sees Trump take 6-point lead over Biden

According to the poll, Trump leads President Joe Biden by 49 percent to 43 percent among likely voters. This represents a three-point bump from just one week prior to the debate and marks the largest lead Trump has held in any Times/Siena poll since 2015. Among registered voters, Trump’s lead is even larger, standing at 49 percent to Biden’s 41 percent.

The results reflect growing voter concerns over Biden’s age and mental stability. A majority of voters across all demographic, geographic, and ideological groups believe Biden is too old to be an effective leader. 50 percent of voters agreed that Biden’s "age is such a problem that he is not capable of handling the job of president," a sentiment shared by 55 percent of independent voters as well.

74 percent of voters stated that Biden is too old to be president, a number that has increased by five points since the debate. Among Democrats, 59 percent share this concern, while among independents, the figure is 79 percent. Despite these concerns, 48 percent of Democrats still believe Biden should remain the Democratic Party’s nominee for president.

Biden and the White House have consistently maintained that he is not dropping out of the race, despite internal calls for his withdrawal in light of the poor poll results following the debate. Biden has reportedly assured his staff that he is committed to the race.

"Let me say this as clearly as I possibly can, as simply and straightforward as I can: I am running," Biden reportedly told staffers amid growing concerns. "I am not leaving. I'm in this race to the end and we're going to win."

The poll was conducted between June 28 and July 2 of 1,532 registered voters and has a margin of error of 2.8 percent.
