Jesus Manuel Buron Tabit, Cuba's Vice-Minister of the Interior, has just resigned on Sunday because of how the Cuban government has been treating protestors with excessive force.
Cuba, since Jul. 11 2021 has been embroiled in civil unrests from one end of the country to the other, as people have massively taken to the streets chanting "libertad" ("freedom") and demanding an end to the 62-year communist regime.
According to ABC Spain, Buron tendered his resignation in the lobby Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba.
Juan Juan Almeida, a Cuban exile in Miami who used to be very close to Castro's regime before fleeing, said while talking about the high-profile resignation, "Aplicar la ley con estricto apego a ella, no significa asesinar," or, in English "Strictly applying the law doesn't mean murdering people."
ABC Spain also talked about the apparent latent differences that have now come to the surface between the old guard officials and younger ones.
Depending on the source, anywhere from dozens to thousands of Cuban protestors have been disappeared since the protests began. It is becoming difficult to obtain accurate information due to the regime's efforts to block the internet in Cuba.
