Hosts of The View claim Clarence Thomas ‘doesn’t respect the black community,’ call Amy Coney Barrett a traitor to women
“He’s to the right of Attila the Hun, this guy, and they put him in there thinking oh a black man will go against voting rights! Which is what he does.”
Despite Clarence Thomas being black and Amy Coney Barrett being female, the hosts of The View on Thursday disavowed the Supreme Court Justices over their political leanings.
This discussion sparked off following this week’s announcement by Justice Stephen Breyer that he plans to retire at the end of the current SCOTUS session. President Joe Biden has since renewed an earlier promise to nominate a black woman as Breyer’s replacement.

Joy Behar criticized Barrett’s politics first. "You know you could make the case that somebody like Amy Coney Barrett was put in there because she’s a white woman, who they say, well she’ll go against abortion rights and she’s a 'woman.' So that was deliberate I think."
Then the view co-host goes in on Justice Clarence Thomas, who she previously nicknamed "Uncle Clarence" during an 2020 Election Day discussion on MSNBC.
"Clarence Thomas, a black guy (a black man), a Justice, okay I’ll give it to him he’s a smart guy. But he’s to the right of Attila the Hun, this guy, and they put him in there thinking oh a black man will go against voting rights! Which is what he does. And it’s a very tricky business they’re pulling over there when you think about it, and not to mention the fact that Mitch McConnell has no concept of the law when it comes to the Supreme Court."
Whoopi Goldberg added: "They know the law. They’re not following it, they don’t want to follow it." Then, co-host Sunny Hostin remarked how she thinks "it’s terribly disrespectful to appoint someone like Clarence Thomas with his philosophies to the seat of Thurgood Marshall, a civil rights activist."
At one point in the segment the panel commented on how Clarence Thomas "doesn’t represent the black community" amid a discussion about the racial representation of SCOTUS. They questioned the background of the justices being from Harvard, Yale and Notre Dame, with how that plays into their diversity worldviews.
Other recent headlines involving The View include how one co-host said they might never feel comfortable again going out in public without wearing a mask. They’ve also called for a boycott of the Joe Rogan podcast.
But for whatever reason, the show’s executives have had difficulties finding the "right" kind of conservative voice to replace Meghan McCain.
