In what appears to be a leaked recording of Chinese military officials, a 57-minute audio clip published to Youtube, Twitter, and reported by Lude Media captures the May 14th deliberations of a portion of the People’s Liberation Army as they discuss preparations to invade Taiwan.
In the recording, Chinese leadership can be heard discussing the defense of critical Chinese areas in the event of an armed conflict, especially that of the densely-populated Guangdong province.
Lude Media claims it received the recording from two high-level Chinese officials attempting to derail the plans of Chinese President Xi Jinping. While the authenticity of the recording has been supported by The India Times, it remains unverified by American sources.
This wouldn’t be the first leak providing a glimpse behind the working of Chinese officials. In 2011, a Danish Newspaper uncovered a 60-page document providing insight into China’s crackdown on free speech. More recently, in 2019, the New York Times reported on the Xinjiang Papers, 400 pages detailing the systematic and brutal apprehension of Uighur Muslims in eastern China.
But a leak of the military’s upcoming plans to invade a foreign country—if accurate—would represent the greatest public breach of Chinese intelligence since the inception of the Communist Party’s rule of the mainland in 1949.

Protecting Chinese manufacturing industries such as drone development would be key. This is where officials mentioned Guangdong province, a key area that houses many of China’s most valuable industry giants.
According to the India Times, the voices of Zhou He, major general of the People’s Liberation Army, and Wang Shouxin, standing committee member of Guangdong Provincial Committee, can be heard along with the Party Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Governor, and Vice Governor, of the Guangdong province.
In addition to talking about the needed defenses, the officials also discuss what's needed to launch an effective offensive.
“First, the mobilization tasks issued to our province by the easter and southern war zones totaling 20 categories and 239 items, mainly 1358 detachments of various types with a total of 140,000 personnel, 953 ships of various types, and 1653 units/sets of various unmanned equipment. Other resources include 20 airports and docks, 6 repair and shipbuilding yards, 14 emergency transfer centers, and resources such as grain depots, hospitals, blood stations, oil depots, gas stations, ect. Second, the national defense mobilization recruitment office will recruit new military service personnel, retired military personnel, and special talents totaling 15,500 people from our province. The National Defense Commission clearly stated that our province shall coordinate the implementation of the seven types of national level warfare resources, including, mainly, 64 10,000-ton roll-on/roll-off ships, 38 aircraft, 588 train cars, and 19 civil facilities including airports and docks.”
Chinese authorities are reportedly on a manhunt for the person who leaked the recording.
