Non-man Elliot Page featured in New York Magazine's 'The Boys in the Baths' men's style issue

New York Magazine has launched its inaugural “Men’s Style Issue,” featuring trans-identified female Ellen “Elliot” Page posing half-nude with tattoos and mastectomy scars on display. The magazine issue focused on style for men features Page and other actors in limited clothing at a bathhouse. 

The cover story, titled “The Boys in the Baths,” highlights the history of the Russian and Turkish Baths in the East Village and the tradition of “shvitzing.” These have also traditionally been meet-up spots for gay men.

Speaking about bathhouses, Page said, “I went to a bathhouse recently. I’ve only in the past couple of years been like, Yeah, that sounds nice, to like go somewhere and sit around in your body like that. I do sing in the shower sometimes. The same songs and lyrics will get stuck in my head, and I don’t know why. Like 'Do you believe in life after love?' That’s one I’ll belt out. Or 'The Sound of Music': I’ve never seen the movie, which seems crazy, but for some reason I find myself belting out that song in the shower. I can’t explain it.” Musicals and Cher.

Page was photographed wearing Saint Lauren by Anthony Vaccarello shorts and a Miansai necklace, nothing else. Other people picked for the shoot, such as singer Troye Sivan and restaurateur Eddie Huang, were similarly seen wearing shorts, maybe some jewelry, and nothing else but double mastectomy scars.

The selection of Page to be the cover model received backlash on social media. Paul Szypula wrote, “Men have a right to their own spaces too. New York Magazine is trying to deny that. It put Elliot Page on the cover of its first standalone men’s style issue today. As a man I find that insulting. It’s a mockery of my decades of life on this earth as a man.”

The Babylon Bee’s Seth Dillon posted a photo declaring that Elliot Page is the satirical outlet’s “Woman of the Year.”

Commentator Raw Egg Nationalist wrote, “Honestly, in time we'll look back on this in the same way people look back on Christians being used as living candles in the gardens of Nero's palace and women and children being devoured by lions and tigers in the Coliseum.”

Another user wrote, “New York Magazine’s first Men’s Style issue: THIS is what they’re trying to normalize. Cover star Elliot Page is the “man” they put on the cover. This isn’t style; it’s a psychiatric condition packaged as fashion.”
