Eric Adams calls for illegal immigrants to be shipped throughout ‘entire country’ to ease NYC’s ‘burden’

Adams said the influx of illegal immigrants has been a "burden" on NYC.

On Sunday, New York City mayor Eric Adams went on Face the Nation and told host Margaret Brennan that the federal government should move illegal immigrants "throughout the entire country" as he continues to struggle with the mass influx of border crossers being shipped to Manhattan.

"Would it be more helpful if it was the federal government directing where migrants are moved to throughout the United States instead of you as New York City's mayor trying to figure out where you can send them within your state?" Brennan asked. "Yes, it would," Adams replied.

"We have 108,000 cities, villages, towns, if everyone takes a small portion of that, and if it's coordinated at the border, to ensure that those who are coming here to this country, in a lawful manner, is actually moved throughout the entire country is not a burden on one city," Adams added.

On May 17, the Covid-era rule that enabled the prompt removal of illegal immigrants in order to safeguard public health and prevent the spread of disease, Title 42, expired.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced he would respond by sending thousands to sanctuary cities such as New York City, something he had started in August 2022 to unburden his state from the historic influx of illegal immigrants. By October 2022, thousands of illegal immigrants had arrived in NYC and Adams declared a state of emergency due to leadership's inability to house the individuals. Adams also said his city was too crime-ridden for illegal immigrants, many of whom got off the bus to go anywhere else while in transit to the Big Apple.

Adams also claimed that 70,000 illegal immigrants have arrived in New York City since August 2022 and that 42,000 still remain.

Adams has been shipping illegal immigrants to upstate New York locations such as the Hudson Valley and Westchester and has been booking rooms at a rate as high as $190 a night, often to the exclusion of others, including veterans.
