New York City Mayor's Zohran Mamdani's new "tenant advocate" Cea Weaver—who has previously called for the seizure of private property—has talked about her plan to seize real estate as well as to "challenge the speculative role that the real estate industry plays in our city and in our state" with a "public sector alternative" for housing in the Big Apple.

In an appearance on Sam Sedar's far-left show "The Majority Report," Weaver laid out plans to seize people's private real estate as well as expand the government's role in creating "public sector" housing around New York.

She said Mamdani's "social housing authority" should "scale" and "create a lot of housing" in order to provide an alternative to the "speculative role that the real estate industry plays" in New York. "We want it to be able to compete with the private market, and we think that's what will make it successful, as if there's a true public sector alternative to our existing speculative and profit-driven housing system."

She then added that the agency will be asking for $5 billion in order to staff the agency as well as build new housing and "acquire distressed housing across the state." She then added that the authority, if it so determines, can take buildings away from landlords.

In another portion of her appearance, Weaver said that she wants to push for "pro-tenant policies" by "running pro-tenant candidates" and "electing tenants into office" to "interrupt the sort of race to the bottom that we're seeing across the entire country," regarding housing, which she also called a "race to the far right."
