Police are urgently searching for a suspect who allegedly shot a 48-year-old man on a Manhattan-bound Q train at Lower Manhattan's Canal Street station.

The incident occurred around 11:42 a.m Sunday morning, and the suspect fled the area.

The victim received a gunshot wound to his chest. He was rushed to nearby Bellevue Hostpial, but died. No one else was killed or wounded in the shooting.

According to the Daily Mail, the man escaped to the city's streets. No arrests have been made as of publication.

The NYPD are searching the wider area to locate the suspect. Any one with information on the subject is urged to contact the NYPD as soon as possible.

NYC subway trains have been the scene of various crimes recently. On April 12, a shooting occurred, also on a Manhattan-bound train originating in Brooklyn.

In that case, suspect Frank James allegedly threw a smoke bomb in the subway car before opening fire, firing 33 rounds in total and injuring 10 people.

Even recently-elected mayor Eric Adams has admitted he's afraid to take the subway.
