A Rochester police officer in the course of foiling a house burglary by an armed man was shot on Tuesday morning by the suspect.

The officer was alone at the scene when he was fired at  multiple times my an armed male who was trying to forcibly enter a house on the 300 block of Hague Street, and hit in the neck by a bullet. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

Another officer arrived at the scene and took the fallen officer to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery ,according to local ABC outlet WHAM13. He is now listed as stable and is expected to fully recover from his injury.

The officer's name has not been released yet due to his family not being completely notified of the incident, but Captian Mark Mura of the Rochester Police claimed that he is a 15-year veteran of the department.

Mura also stated recently in a press conference repeatedly that various individuals are being questioned regarding the incident, but could not confirm or deny if the suspect had yet been identified.

Mura concluded, "We don’t want anybody in the community hurt- especially our officers. We do everything we can to protect our officers with training and tools and things of that nature. So yeah, it’s difficult - especially this time of year. But thankfully our officer appears to be in good condition right now."

"The news today reminds us of the risks our men and women of the Rochester Police Department face every day. I am thankful for their service which keeps us safe and allows us to enjoy this holiday season. God bless them and our City," said Rochester mayor Lovely Warren in a statement on Tuesday.

The public is asked to avoid that part of Hague Street, as it will be closed throughout Tuesday due to the ongoing investigation.
