An off-duty officer has been charged with impaired related offences after a single motor vehicle collision, Peel police said in a statement released Tuesday.

Police say that on Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, at approximately 9:30 pm, emergency services responded to a "single motor vehicle collision in the area of Sandalwood Parkway and Great Lakes Drive, in the City of Brampton."

Constable John Lontoc, a 12-year employee of Peel Regional Police, was charged with the following offenses: impaired operation of vehicle and impaired operation - excess blood alcohol.

Police say that Lontoc was "suspended with pay as per the provisions of the Police Services Act, and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Thursday, March 17, 2022."

Once the criminal court proceedings have been completed, a Police Services Act investigation will follow.
