The home of a local municipal politician was vandalized in Ontario when a vandal graffitied slogans like "your a Marxist" and "your a Karen" on the side of her building.
Police have said they are now investigating the matter. The councillor said the vandalism had "crossed the line," according to CTV News.
The councillor is from St. Catharine's, Ontario. She said she called the police right after she discovered it.
"It's not something I really expected to wake up to and I don't live alone, I have two children and I am married. I have a husband and I have neighbours. So they don't deserve this," she said.
According to the councillor, lots of politicians in that area of the province have been targeted with similar abuse. This includes the mayor, alongside the chief medical officer for the region.
The mayor's home was targeted with criminals spray-painting his car with "vulgar messages."
In a statement, the local police said "at this time it remains under investigation, as such we are not able to provide further information."
The councillor has since said that she "thinks they're disturbing and I received many messages of support from people all across Ontario and many politicians who messaged me privately to tell me that they've had to put up cameras and that they've faced this type of targeted harassment."
"I know people are really struggling right now," she added. "This is not the way forward."
