Ottawa Senators forward Claude Giroux and his wife, Ryanne, woke up Wednesday morning to find their car had been stolen – right from the driveway of their home in the Ottawa suburb of Kanata.

“Good morning Ottawa! Claude Giroux’s car was stolen last night and is currently actively driving," Ryanne Giroux posted on X. Unable to get ahold of Ottawa Police until 10 am," she continued, asking users for "other suggestions/to hear from other people in Ontario who have sadly had to deal with this recently."

Ryanne said they hadn’t had any response from Ottawa police but the GPS system was telling them that the car was being driven by someone – so the couple reached out to the public for advice for anyone who had suffered a similar experience.

The Ottawa Police offered some low-key assistance, on X: "We're sorry to hear this. With any crime in progress, call 911 at the time of the incident. We understand an officer has been dispatched."

After receiving replies from the public ranging from disbelief that the police couldn’t react until 10 am to suggestions that the couple proceed to the Port of Montreal to find their car, Ryanne responded: "Thank you for all your help! Not banking on ever seeing that car again but stay tuned."

"Police have been notified. Claude did initially call 911 but after the initial conversation, we weren’t sure it was an 'emergency.' We did end up calling 911 again to report. Maybe this will get me into labor," the pregnant mother of two posted.

Canada is the car theft capital of the world. Federal Justice Minister and Attorney General Arif Virani has had his Toyota Highlander XLE stolen three times. Canada made Interpol's top ten list for car thefts. There are 137 countries in the international police force's database and Canada only began sending its car theft data to it in February.
