28-year-old Davier Massey, who was previously banned from the gym, was taken into custody.
police identified the suspect as 28-year-old Davier Massey, who was taken into custody on Thursday following the attack. Officers responded to the gym around 12:30 pm after receiving reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, they found a male victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was transported to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries, and his condition had not been released as of Sunday.
Authorities with Cheltenham Township police allege Massey carried out the attack despite previously being banned from the gym. A motive and details leading to the incident have not yet been disclosed, but police said Massey and the gym employee were in a physical altercation when the stabbing took place. Massey was arrested just a short distance away from the gym after the incident occurred.
One member of the gym told FOX 29 Philadelphia, "I can’t believe this. I feel like I’m in a dream right now.” Another member said that the employees at the location are all “nice” and “uplifting,” adding, "It’s a little shocking for something to happen right here.”
Massey is facing a number of charges that include attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and possession of an instrument of crime. He was denied bail and is currently being held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
The investigation surrounding the circumstances of the stabbing remains ongoing.
