A spectacular high-speed car chase in Pickering, ON has resulted in two individuals being charged after handguns were found in their possession when they were finally apprehended.
Owais Jarafi, aged 19 years, and Rychez Leslie, aged 21 years are both facing multiple charges. Leslie, who was the driver, has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, flight from a police officer, and possession of a loaded firearm, as well as charges under the Highway Traffic Act.
Jarafi has been charged with occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm and possession of a loaded firearm, among other gun charges. Both suspects are currently in Durham Regional Police custody pending a bail hearing.
A Durham police officer saw the black Porsche driving dangerously near Whites road on Highway 401 in Pickering. When he attempted to pull the vehicle over, the Porsche accelerated to get away instead of complying.
In lieu of directly pursing the vehicle, the officer radioed in, and a police helicopter spotted the vehicle as it exited the 401 at Westney Rd.
The driver of the Porsche continued to attempt to evade authorities, eventually going over a curb, which made the vehicle flip over, and there ended the chase.
Neither Jarafi nor Leslie were injured in the incident, nor were any officers or third parties.
