The city of Portland, Oregon, has one of the nation’s highest property crime rates – second only to Memphis, Tennessee, according to FBI data.
The analysis comes as President Trump has vowed to deploy National Guard troops to crime-ridden Democratic-run cities in an effort to restore law and order across the nation.
“Every American deserves to live in a community where they’re not afraid of being mugged, murdered, robbed, raped, assaulted, or shot,” President Trump told reporters last week.
According to an FBI report, Portland recorded 5,526 property crimes per 100,000 people in 2024, KOIN News reported. 4,532 of those reports were for burglary.
To compare, Memphis recorded 7,327 property crimes per 100,000 residents, making it the highest in the country based on 2024-2025 data. President Trump has already sent in the National Guard to Memphis.
In recent weeks, the Trump administration has intensified its scrutiny of Portland. Last month, the president ordered the National Guard to be deployed to the region in order to safeguard the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility, which has been under siege by Antifa-linked demonstrators since early June. After a stall in court, the US Court of Appeals ruled on Monday that President Trump has the authority to deploy the National Guard to the city, overturning a last week federal judge’s temporary restraining order (TRO).
The president has described the ongoing protests as "terroristic" and said his administration has a zero-tolerance policy for anarchy.
While the National Guard will be deployed specifically to the ICE facility on Macadam Avenue in Portland's southwest waterfront neighborhood, the president has expressed a desire to clean up other crime-ridden areas of the city, which have been desecrated by open-air drug use, resulting in an increase in crime and lawlessness.
Federal law enforcement sources told The Post Millennial that the Oregon National Guard has been undergoing pre-deployment training at Camp Rilea over the past couple of weeks. It remains unclear when troops are set to arrive at the ICE facility.
