"I am directing Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to provide all necessary Troops to protect War ravaged Portland, and any of our ICE Facilities under siege from attack by Antifa, and other domestic terrorists."
President Donald Trump announced on social media on Saturday that he is directing troops to defend Portland and ICE facilities, citing attacks by Antifa and other domestic groups. He said the move came at the request of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and authorized the use of “full force” if necessary.
"At the request of Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, I am directing Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to provide all necessary Troops to protect War ravaged Portland, and any of our ICE Facilities under siege from attack by Antifa, and other domestic terrorists. I am also authorizing Full Force, if necessary. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" the post reads.
On Friday night, Attorney General Pam Bondi released a statement on X saying she had instructed Joint Terrorism Task Forces nationwide to take immediate action against violent groups threatening federal agents. “The Department of Justice will not stand idly by in the face of such lawlessness,” Bondi wrote. She added that agents would be deployed to ICE facilities under attack and that the DOJ would pursue the “most serious available charges” against anyone involved in criminal activity.
Bondi also directed federal law enforcement agencies—including the FBI, DEA, ATF, and US Marshals Service—to work closely with Homeland Security to locate, detain, and prosecute offenders. She tied the move directly to President Trump’s recent executive order, saying the new effort would ensure federal property and personnel are defended against “repeated acts of violence and obstruction.”
Earlier in September, speaking from the Oval Office, Trump called out “paid agitators” for causing unrest in Portland. He said his administration would “wipe them out” if federal forces were sent into the city. “These are paid agitators, and they’re very dangerous for our country,” Trump told reporters.
Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller supported the crackdown announcement, framing the unrest as an organized campaign against the federal government. “We are witnessing domestic terrorist sedition,” Miller said. He noted that the Joint Terrorism Task Force was being fully deployed under Bondi’s directive, with all available resources at their disposal.
