Rep. Rashida Tlaiib (D-MI) said she was "proud" to vote "uncommitted" in the Democratic primary in the state of Michigan on Tuesday. She voted against the head of the Democrat Party, the President of the United States.

Tlaib, who has also voted "present" in a nearly unanimous resolution in the House of Representatives to condemn the rape of women in Israel on Oct. 7, cast the vote in an effort for Democrats in Michigan to vote uncommitted in order to strike a blow at President Joe Biden's support due to his policies in the Israel-Hamas war.

"I was proud today to walk in and pull a Democratic ballot and vote uncommitted," she stated, while dressed wearing a keffiyeh.

She said that this would help to protect "democracy" in the US and that because Democrats want a ceasefire in the war, they should all vote against Biden in the primary.

"We must make sure that our government is about us," she continued. "About the people. When 74 percent of Democrats in Michigan support a ceasefire, yet President Biden is not hearing us. This is the way we can use our democracy to say, 'Listen, listen to Michigan.'"

The statement from Tlaib was posted originally by the anti-Israel campaign #ListenToMichigan on X. The account has a pinned post with a call to have Michigan voters mark uncommitted in a protest vote against the Biden administration.

Leading up to the primary, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer did an interview on CNN imploring Michigan voters to vote for Biden because a vote not cast for the president "supports a second Trump term."
