Texas Republican Chip Roy announced on Friday that he wants to test Vice President Harris' knowledge of the situation at the border via a debate.

In an interview with Newsmax, Congressman Roy lamented the fact that the Vice President has been physically absent from the country's southern border, despite the fact that she has been tasked with keeping tabs on the situation. "I’ve spent a lot of time ... on the border of the United States," he said, "unlike Vice President Kamala Harris, who can’t find the border on a map apparently."

"I’ve said to the vice president," he continued, "since she refuses to go the border, I will debate her or the president anywhere, anytime they choose to on border issues."

While criticism of Harris' handling of the border crisis originally came solely from Republicans, recently even some Democrats have voiced their concerns. As the Los Angeles Times reports, Democratic Congressman Henry Cuellar spoke out against Harris, saying that, "She’s playing it, in my opinion, very safe by not dealing with the border." Congressman's Cuellar's district "extends 194 miles along the U.S.-Mexico line."

Harris may not have visited the border yet, however she has spent a lot of time trying to pinpoint the "root causes" of the crisis. The Vice President has blamed the crisis on everything from climate change, to corruption. Recently, she suggested that persuading American companies to invest in Central America might help slow the flow of migration into the United States.

Congressman Roy, on the other hand, blames the crisis on the Biden administration's failed policies. "They’re endangering Texans, they’re endangering migrants," he said.

"I understand people want to come here for a better way of life," the congressman continued. "God bless them. Let’s stand up and have a strong economy and a strong border. And then let’s go help and make sure that the Western hemisphere is growing economically, where people don’t feel like they have to leave Venezuela or El Salvador or Mexico to come here. Let’s have a strong country and lead, rather than being weak with open borders."
