REVEALED: Hunter Biden leaned into being VP Biden's son during 2016 SEC investigation, asked to avoid 'media attention'

"It would be unfair, not just to our client, but also to his father, the Vice President of the United States, if his involvement in an SEC investigation and parallel criminal probe were to become the subject of any media attention."

It has been revealed that Hunter Biden's legal counsel had fears over "media attention" when the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) subpoenaed him in 2016, and leaned into Hunter Biden being then-Vice President Joe Biden's son.

According to an investigation from the Congressional Oversight Committee, in a 2016 letter to the SEC over a subpoena at the time, the president's son's counsel wrote, “As a threshold matter, we request that you treat this matter with the highest degree of confidentiality, consistent with Commission policy and applicable law."

"The confidential nature of this investigation is very important to our client and it would be unfair, not just to our client, but also to his father, the Vice President of the United States, if his involvement in an SEC investigation and parallel criminal probe were to become the subject of any media attention," the letter added.

The letter was dated April 20, 2016, in response to the subpoena. On May 11, the SEC published a press release, with the charges of seven others announced, however, there was no mention of Hunter Biden being charged. The case involved the suspects "defrauding investors in sham Native American tribal bonds in order to steal millions of dollars in proceeds for their own extravagant expenses and criminal defense costs," per the press release at the time.

The president's son, although he had to be subpoenaed in the investigation, did not appear on the press release related to the charges. Hunter Biden may not have been charged in the case, however, the House Oversight Committee stated in its press release that Chairman James Comer as well as Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan "want answers from the SEC" in response to the revelation.

This comes as Hunter Biden has been found guilty in his federal gun charges trial and questions surrounding how much President Joe Biden has helped Hunter in different legal woes have surfaced in the 2024 election.
