"There was a backlash with some of our progressive staff that didn't want her to be on it," a Democratic operative said.
Kamala Harris did not appear on Joe Rogan's podcast because she feared that she would get backlash from her progressive staffers, according to a Democratic operative. After now-President Elect Donald Trump appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience, Harris was not able to follow the viral showing.
According to the Daily Mail, Jennifer Palmieri, who is a Democratic operative as well as an ex-advisor to Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, has said that if Harris appeared on the podcast, it would have rocked the boat too much with her progressive staff.
"There was a backlash with some of our progressive staff that didn't want her to be on it, and how there would be a backlash," Palmieri said. Rogan has also revealed that Harris did not want to discuss the topic of marijuana legalization, perhaps stemming from Harris' history of enforcing marijuana violations in California to then flip-flopping on the issue, advocating for recreational use of the drug. Harris convicted around 1,900 offenders as San Francisco District Attorney.
"I think they had requirements on things that she didn't want to talk about, she didn't want to talk about marijuana legalization, which I thought was hilarious," Rogan said in an episode on Tuesday. Her failure to appear on the podcast was seen as a massive loss for the campaign when it came to messaging. "Because of her prosecuting record," Rogan added during the show. "She put a lot of people in jail for weed."
Rogan, who endorsed Trump prior to the election results, was a supporter of Bernie Sanders in 2016 and was widely known to support Democrats. However, over the last few years, he has become more associated with Republicans due to his opposition to the policies enacted during the Covid-19 lockdowns and vaccine mandates as well as his opposition to censorship and more progressive, "woke" policies.
