Blood was seen on the curb when officers were on the scene.
The property, located on Buchanan Street, has been the target of complaints going back years online, where the house and fence have a number of large MAGA displays and flags. Locals refer to the home as the "Trump House" because of the extensive decor. However, the owner of the home has been left in serious condition, per the New York Post.
Video of the attack's aftermath showed police blocking off the street and putting up yellow caution tape. Officers reportedly arrived to find a worker restraining a man while the owner was lying down nearby with severe injuries. The house had become a target for hostility in the neighborhood, according to comments from social media users online.
“My buddy lived down the street from him. Whenever I went to visit I made sure to swing by that place and shout stuff at them,” one Reddit user said in a post last year. The same thread was full of comments relating to California laws on about political displays, as well as others saying that neighbors should launch legal complaints.
According to the Post, blood was seen on the curb when officers were on the scene and spoke to witnesses of the confrontation. The owner of the Trump House was rushed to a medical center in critical condition. 32-year-old Thomas Caleb Butler was arrested in connection with the attack.
The house was reportedly a target of property damage in recent months, according to former candidate for San Diego County Board of Supervisors Amy Reichert.
