A woman in Charleston County in South Carolina, AKA the Low Country, was surprised to find an alligator hanging out on her front porch on Monday.

The woman, Robyn Schnessel, was working from home at her address in West Ashley's Grand Oaks Plantation when the two family dogs went to the front door. They then started to bark and wouldn't stop. Schnessel went to her door and looked through to see the alligator basking right in front of it.

According to local news outlet Count On News 2, her home security camera caught the whole thing and recorded it. The wayward reptile had been there for 20 minutes before the dogs spotted it.

She then called the Department of Natural Resources. They told her that if they showed up to deal with the problem they were required by law to kill the animal, but that she could also wait and see if it would leave on its own. She chose the latter option, and approximately an hour later the alligator did indeed waddle off to new adventures.

Schnessel said when interviewed: "Very appropriate for 2020. It was crazy, scary, and ridiculous all at the same time."

“He was on camera for almost 20 minutes before the dog saw him. I froze, honestly, and then freaked out."
