Monday Netflix has revealed the real dog that will play Scooby-Doo in the upcoming live-action series. The media giant unveiled a first look at the dog in a teaser X post. This will be the first time Scooby-Doo will be portrayed by a live dog. The show is set to premiere in 2027 and is currently in production in Atlanta, Georgia.

The series stars Mckenna Grace (19) as Daphne Blake, Tanner Hagen (21) as Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson (18) as Velma Dinkley, Maxwell Jenkins (21) as Fred Jones, and Paul Walter Hauser (39) as a yet-to-be-revealed character.

The casting returns to a more traditional, race-accurate portrayal of the iconic group in contrast to the 2023 animated reboot Velma, which featured an Indian-American Velma and a Black Shaggy.

In a press release on its website, Netflix describes the show as follows: “Origins will follow Shaggy and his old pal Daphne Blake during their final summer at camp, as seen in the new teaser. The teens become embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy that may have witnessed a supernatural murder. With help from the pragmatic and scientific townie Velma Dinkley and the strange but ever-so-handsome new kid Fred Jones, they set out to solve the case that’s pulling them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all their secrets.”

The show will be produced by several notable names, with perhaps the most notable being Greg Berlanti, who owns Berlanti Productions, which has produced several notable Netflix series, such as “YOU,” which starred Penn Badgley as Joe Goldberg, and “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.”

Berlanti Productions was also behind several famed superhero series, including "The Flash," "Supergirl," "DC's Legends of Tomorrow," "Black Lightning," "Batwoman," "Stargirl," and "Superman Lois," according to TVLine.
