The shooting that took place last week resulted in the deaths of two women, both mothers, and injured 14 others.
The Round Rock Police Department in Texas has announced the arrest of a second teenager suspected of being involved in the shooting that occurred during the city’s annual Juneteenth celebration last Saturday.
On Friday, the department stated that a male juvenile suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Williamson County Juvenile Justice Center.
“The investigation is ongoing, and the Round Rock Police Department continues to investigate additional suspects. More information will be released as it becomes available,” the police department said in a statement.
The initial incident took place at a Juneteenth festival in Old Settlers Park on June 15, where an altercation between two groups led to multiple bystanders being shot. The shooting resulted in the deaths of two women, both mothers, and injured 14 others.
The victims were not believed to be part of the altercation, according to Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks. The suspects immediately fled the scene after the shooting took place.
The first suspect, 17-year-old Ricky Thompson III, was arrested earlier this week. Thompson has been charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Chief Banks mentioned that Thompson might face murder charges as the investigation continues.
"We have a lot of evidence, a lot of casework to continue to do to make sure that we are getting the justice for these families that they deserve," Banks said after the first suspect was arrested. "We are going to continue to work hard to make sure that we get a resolve, this case, for the families, the victims and this community."
