The teen who was sentenced to five months in a "juvenile probation camp" by LA DA George Gascon for running over a mother and child has been revealed to have a criminal history.
On Friday, news broke that Los Angeles' liberal District Attorney George Gascon had handed down a lenient sentence to a teen caught on camera plowing into a mother and child on the side of the road. It has since been revealed that the teen, who was only sentenced to five months in a "juvenile probation camp" by Gascon, had a prior criminal history.
Gascon's office called the sentence "appropriate," however many disagreed, and the revelation that the teen had a criminal past only adds to the anger felt by many, not least the victim, over the lenient punishment.
On Sunday, FOX News' Bill Melugin reported that the teen not only had a criminal history, but was "on probation, & violating it," at the time of the hit and run.
He had also been convicted of felony poisoning after spiking a girl's drink at Palmdale high school in 2019, which led to her being hospitalized.
Melugin spoke with the victim after she learned that the perpetrator had priors.
"Someone with a criminal record tried to kill me and my son," she said, "and George Gascon thinks that five months of camp is a sufficient punishment."
She went on to slam the DA for not reaching out to see if she and her son were ok, saying it's because "he doesn't care," adding that he instead found the time to "falsely comment on [her] case."
This refers to the fact that Gascon had originally said in a statement that the LA Sheriff's Department agreed with his sentencing, only to have to correct himself after the sheriff's office revealed that they were "never consulted" on the case.
"Gascon and his staff are highlighting their incompetence and their complete disregard for victims," she concluded.
Gascon is currently facing a second recall effort, fueled in large part by the lenient crime policies he has established, and the crime rate in LA.
