A Texas high school teacher has pleaded guilty to having a sexual relationship with two teenage boys.
25-year-old Shelby Dawn Lashombe, a teacher at Valley Mills High School in McLennan County, admitted to having sexual relationships with two minors, including one she had known for years through family connections. Neither of the boys was a student at the school where she taught prior to her arrest in September.
Police became aware of the situation after Lashombe was seen kissing a 16-year-old boy. The teen told investigators that he had engaged in sexual intercourse with her multiple times, and the teacher was aware he was a minor. Lashombe admitted to the relationship, telling police she had been involved with him for about six months, according to a report by the New York Post.
According to an affidavit, Lashombe “stated she had been friends with the juvenile’s family for years, knowing his age and that he was a student.”
She also admitted to having sex with another boy under the age of 17 who attended a different school as the first teen.
Prosecutors have recommended Lashombe be put on deferred probation and a $1,000 fine after Lashombe pleaded guilty to two counts of improper relationship between educator and student. Both charges are second-degree felonies and carry a potential penalty of up to 20 years in prison.
As part of her guilty plea, two counts of sexual assault against a child were dropped. The judge ordered a presentence investigation by probation officers and said he would consider it before deciding to accept the plea deal.
Her sentencing is scheduled for June 26.
