The Tuesday Night Massacre highlights Justin Trudeau’s problem with women

Justin Trudeau just can't stop punishing women for his own failings. Today he expelled former Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould and Jane Philpott from the Liberal caucus and prevented them from running as Liberal candidates in the upcoming election. Why? Because these women had the courage of their convictions and would not stand by idly as Trudeau used his power to abuse his colleagues in the name of corporate favouritism.

The Tuesday Night Massacre is just the latest example of how Trudeau bullies, harasses, and gaslights his female colleagues. Leona Alleslev, Celina Cesar-Chavannes, Jody Wilson-Raybould, Jane Philpott, the list just keeps on growing.

The dishonest tactic of saying men and women “experience things differently” should not be lost in this pathetic race to discredit the women who have called him out for dishonesty. Trudeau’s government has been accused of multiple claims that he can control the narrative, even suggesting he can manipulate the opinion of former Chief Justice Beverley McLaughlin.

While Trudeau may want to paint this as a he said/she said situation, his former Attorney General backed up her story with an audio recording. As much as Trudeau apologists may wish it, denouncing the act of recording the phone call doesn’t make the voices on that audio file disappear.

There are likely a few four letter words recently said behind publicly funded doors that Trudeau wouldn’t want people to hear. But there is no undoing the truth and while Wilson-Raybould can’t necessarily prove everything on paper, she got it on tape.

While people may wish to see no evil, and do no evil, JWR made sure that we hear it.

Wilson-Raybould’s assistant was told that Trudeau could generate a bunch of op-eds to support any political interference. Some members of the media scoffed. Meanwhile, some reporters have asked the public to care more about the ethics of recording a phone call than focussing on what was said in the conversation.

One thing that stands out in the recording is that Michael Wernick, a man who held the high position of Clerk of the Privy Council of Canada, kept saying he was too afraid to give Justin Trudeau bad news. Apparently only Jody Wilson-Raybould had the guts to say “no” to Trudeau. And she got fired.

JWR predicted early on that what was happening was like the Saturday Night Massacre. She said it in her testimony before the justice committee and she said it in the phone call we now have the benefit of hearing for ourselves.

Should she have recorded it? Wouldn’t you if you were being bullied at your workplace? People who believe in democracy and accountability should be glad she did. It didn’t take a woman’s intuition to know something was wrong. But it did take a woman to put an end to it.

Thanks to the strong women who stood up to him, Trudeau doesn’t just have a problem with women, he now has a problem with all right-thinking Canadians.
