A three-year-old girl in Oakville was injured after being struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of a Fortinos on Sunday, CP24 reports.

Police were called to the Fortinos located at the intersection of Neyagawa Boulevard and Dundas Street West at around 4:30 pm.

According to police, a 38-year-old woman was pulling out of her parking spot when the child ran in front of the vehicle. The child was later transported to hospital after sustaining injuries.

"Further assessments were conducted of the child at which point her medical status was updated to having suffered from minor injuries," said police. Her medical status originally described her injuries as serious.

The Halton Regional Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the scene.

The girl is expected to recover.
