"Maybe AOC’s gonna be in trouble now.”
The webinar from Ocasio-Cortez's office, which was streamed on Facebook, was held in conjunction with immigration lawyers from the Immigrant Defense Project, and was targeted in order to tell illegal immigrants in the United States how to deal with a confrontation with ICE officers.
Appearing for a segment with Laura Ingrahm, Homan said he sent an email to the Attorney General about her potentially violating laws regarding immigration and added, "Is she crossing the line? So, I’m working with the Department of Justice and finding out. Where is that line that they cross? So, maybe AOC’s gonna be in trouble now." He said that Ocasio-Cortez could be impeding the actions of ICE but that he would need the guidance of the DOJ.
Genia Blaser, a lawyer with the Immigrant Defense Project, told those watching, “ICE raids are political tactics, and they’re often intended to create fear." This comes as Border the Trump administration's Tom Homan has carried out a number of different ICE raids around the country, mostly targeting those who have committed crimes and are involved with gangs.
Blaser continued, “This is a time where there is a lot of fear. And in fear, it’s really important to have knowledge because knowledge is power." She added that ICE agents are “often very aggressive, and the encounters can happen really quickly."
In addition to the webinar, Ocasio-Cortez has also put information up on her congressional website to assist those who could face deportation and are "worried about getting picked up by ICE." The website, however, only says that it can only help with visa applications, asylum cases, and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and Temporary Protected Status immigrants.
