"I have the influence… I can undo whatever’s been done."
Brandon Newsom, a Director of Business Operations at the Pentagon, sat down on what he believed was a date with a stranger, when in reality it was O’Keefe disguised with a mustache. During the conversation, Newsom explained his intentions to use his influence to undo Trump administration policies inside the Pentagon after the president leaves office.
“I have the influence… I can undo whatever’s been done,” Newsom told O’Keefe. “When the election changes… I want to stay and stick it out so that when the time comes, I can undo whatever’s been done.”
Since the release of the video, Newsom has been suspended, according to a statement from Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao.
“Effective immediately, this individual has been placed on administrative leave while we determine next steps to ensure accountability and protect the integrity of our mission,” Cao said.
Newsom, a 16-year Pentagon employee, specifically targeted two policies, including that he would reverse the Pentagon’s monthly “prayer service” that Hegseth holds on a monthly and voluntary basis.
He also said he would want to reverse a Trump-era policy that allows for higher-up Pentagon officials, such as Newsom, to be fired by the administration.
Newsom admitted that he lacked the formal authority to make changes but stated he would use his influence tied to his position.
"I don’t have the authority to do that, but I have the influence… It’s not about me, it’s about the position,” he said.
The Pentagon official also called Trump a “textbook narcissist,” and said that the US’ policy toward Iran is “completely stupid… driven on one man’s ego.”
Newsom also hinted at certain behind-the-scenes activity in the nation's capital.
“I’ve seen some things. In true D.C. nature, you don’t always reveal everything in D.C,” he added.
