Toronto Police have charged a woman after her two-year-old son fell to his death from the window of a 14th floor apartment in Toronto’s Jane and Finch neighbourhood this summer.

Police say that the woman left her toddler alone in her apartment July 28, while he was sleeping. She returned home to find police who told her that her child crawled through the window and fell 14 floors down.

The toddler was sent to hospital where he was later pronounced dead. An investigation started by police was then taken over by Members of the BOOST Child & Youth Advocacy Centre

On Thursday morning, the woman whose name has not been released, turned herself in and was charged with causing death by criminal negligence and parent/spouse not providing the necessities of life.

A court appearance is set for November 5.
