Things are opening up and it appears that Toronto residents are eager to see a return to normal as they flooded Trinity Bellwoods park Saturday, flouting social distancing bylaws.

City News reports that "Toronto reopened 850 park amenities Saturday, including picnic shelters, soccer and multi-use outdoor fields, baseball diamonds and basketball courts after more than two months of closure to stop the spread of COVID-19."

While the social distancing bylaws are still in place, that didn't seem to matter much to the hundreds who flocked to the park to hang out, enjoy picnics, and physical exercise.

Toronto police are monitoring the situation but there have been no fines or charges by the time of publication.

Dr. Eileen de Villa, Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health, tweeted her disappointment when she saw the large gathering in the popular downtown park.

“I understand that the photos of people in Trinity Bellwoods were disappointing today. It was a beautiful day & we all want to enjoy our city together, but this could be selfish & dangerous behaviour that could set us back,” Dr. de Villa tweeted.

"Toronto, this will not end well if we don’t all do our part and respect physical distancing. Going outside is good for physical and mental health, but at a distance. We’re by no means out of the woods yet. Anything but. Please, we are all in this together," tweeted city councillor Joe Cressy.

Toronto residents could face a fine over $1,000 for failing to comply with social distancing bylaws.
