"So again, my speculation based on the circumstances, based upon what we know at this time, is that yes, this appears to be a TdA or affiliate TdA involvement."
Suspected members of the violent Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua (TdA) were caught on camera earlier in June, terrorizing an apartment at a complex in Aurora, Colorado, a scene that police said was "very reminiscent" of videos out of the city last year showing gang members taking over.
Video released by the Aurora Police Department showed armed men repeatedly knocking on a door at the complex near E. 6th Ave and Potomac Street in the early hours of June 9. Around nine people, all armed, were seen outside the apartment. Per Fox News, the people who lived in the apartment are from Venezuela and had moved in two days prior. They did not answer the door.
"The scene is very reminiscent of the TdA gang takeover that occurred last year and gained national attention," Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain told reporters in a press conference. He said that the Gang Intervention Unit is leading the investigation.
"Based upon the involvement, the actions, the behaviors, the demeanor, there is, without question, gang involvement in this, and again, we are going to hold those individuals accountable. I look at these individuals like a cancer.
During questions, he said that he felt comfortable saying that the majority of those involved were Venezuelan or "affiliates of the Venezuelans," and "when you look at that criminal history of TdA, the way they acted, what they did, it’s very consistent with what we see here."
"So again, my speculation based on the circumstances, based upon what we know at this time, is that yes, this appears to be a TdA or affiliate TdA involvement."
Two suspects have been arrested so far and an additional four others were detained by Homeland Security Investigations Denver. Larry Galbreath was arrested for felony menacing with a firearm and violation of a protection order. Jordan Green was initially released on a summons, however, a warrant is out for his arrest for conspiracy to commit felony menacing and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Another Aurora apartment complex received nationwide attention in 2024 after members of the Tren de Aragua gang were seen taking over the complex. Two members of the gang involved in the takeover were arrested in New York City. Another two were parolees of the Biden-Harris administration.
