Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a tweet on Thursday that the country will receive 4 million doses of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine by the end of March.

"Today, I spoke with the CEO of Pfizer Global, Dr. Bourla, about the timely delivery of COVID-19 vaccines to Canada. He assured me that we’ll receive 4 million doses by the end of March. We’ll keep working together to ensure Canadians can get a vaccine as soon as possible."

Last week, it was announced that Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine shipments will be reduced worldwide, including in Canada over the next four weeks. Pfizer later announced that it would be resuming shipments of the vaccine to other countries within the next two weeks, but there were no updates provided for Canada’s deliveries.

Canadian health officials claimed that Canada remains on schedule for vaccine distribution, even though the country will see a drop in supply over the next few weeks. The next shipment of Moderna vaccines is not expected in Canada until February.

Canadians have been critical of the slow rollout of the vaccine and believe that Canada has been de-prioritized. Last Friday, Canadian health officials said vaccine deliveries would be delayed and that Covid-19 restrictions still were not working to control a resurgence of the virus.

The majority of Canadians have suffered under weeks of stay-at-home orders while daily case counts have leveled off at the top of the recent spike. Health officials said coronavirus death numbers are continuing to rise and may exceed the level during the first peak of the virus.
