A federal regulator has declared Trudeau's quarantine policies a costly failure in a report published on Thursday.
Canada's Public Health Agency spent $600 million on quarantine enforcement. Despite this, the border remained deeply insecure, and new variants were able to spread, according to Blacklock's Reporter.
The Public Health Agency could not verify tests for 30 percent of travellers arriving in Canada. On top of this, they remain unsure whether 75 percent of travellers actually checked into a quarantine hotel.
"Without verifying travellers’ compliance with mandatory quarantine orders the Public Health Agency cannot know whether its approach to enforcing the orders is effective," wrote the auditors.
"This is not a success story," said Auditor General Karen Hogan. "I am concerned the Public Health Agency is unable to show us whether or not these border measures are effective."
"The Agency’s inability to confirm whether more than one-third of travellers complied with quarantine orders remains a significant problem," she added.
After initially suggesting that calls to close the border were racist, Trudeau's Health Minister finally brought in travel restrictions.
"It’s really important that people take this seriously," Hajdu would later say. In the most recent reshuffle, Hajdu was pushed to the indigenous services portfolio.
