The prime minister's second home Harrington Lake where he spends summers with his family is undergoing $8.6 million in taxpayer-funded renovations, according to the CBC.

Justin Trudeau also spent Easter in Harrington Lake, choosing to break his own advice and provincial decrees in order to join his family at the mansion. The lakeside-mansion is the official second residence of the prime minister.

Trudeau spends the other half of the year at Rideau Cottage, located on the the grounds of the governor general's Rideau Hall. Trudeau chose this location over 24 Sussex drive which is now in a decrepit state.

Harrington Lake has not had a renovation since 2005 and was deemed to be in critical condition. This renovation work has since been suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Trudeau spent much of his childhood at Harrington Lake, writing fondly about it in his memoir: "at Harrington Lake, we spent at least four hours a day in some kind of outdoor activity whether it was hot or cold, dry or drenching."

"My dad had a great saying: 'There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes,'" added Trudeau.
