Trump 'congratulates' Xi, China on 'their massive birthright citizenship WIN' after Supreme Court decision

"I would like to congratulate President XI, and the Great Country of China, on their massive birthright Citizenship WIN!"

"I would like to congratulate President XI, and the Great Country of China, on their massive birthright Citizenship WIN!"

Tuesday, in a blow to his agenda, SCOTUS issued a ruling striking down President Trump’s Day One executive order to end birthright citizenship for the children of undocumented immigrant parents. The 5–4 ruling included Justices Amy Coney Barrett, Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, and Ketanji Brown Jackson, who joined Chief Justice John Roberts in an opinion that will no doubt shape immigration law in the United States for decades. The ruling comes as a hit to Trump’s agenda, as the high court had also recently ruled that Trump could not remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook and that states could continue counting mail-in ballots that arrive after Election Day.

Trump reacted to the birthright ruling on Truth Social, where he urged Congress to take action, while in a separate post congratulating China on the big decision.

The Supreme Court upheld Birthright Citizenship, which is too bad for our Country, but we can easily make it up in Congress through legislation, with the support of the President, that has now been determined during this process,” he wrote. “No long and unwieldy Constitutional Amendment is necessary! Congress should start TODAY to work on ending expensive and unfair to our Country Birthright Citizenship. They will have my complete and total support! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

"I would like to congratulate President XI, and the Great Country of China, on their massive birthright Citizenship WIN!" Trump said in a separate post.

The call for Congress to act was seconded by House Speaker Mike Johnson as he reacted to the news at a press conference.

“I will say, I’m very disappointed in that outcome,” the Speaker said. “I think it subjects the country to serious challenges going forward, and we’ll have to deal with it as Congress.”

“Birthing tourism, they call it: a trend where people come and you just come onto the soil and have your child and then they’re able to avail themselves of the welfare state and everything else,” Johnson added.

“It’s been abused,” he continued. “It’s one of those things that was intended to serve a noble and important purpose and has been thwarted and overused and abused, and so I’m sure that we’ll continue to look at that. I’m sure that the conclusion from this decision is that you have to amend the Constitution to fix that.”

Democrats for their part are reveling in the ruling. Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer took to X to gloat about the decision.

“Despite Trump’s best efforts to bully them, the Supreme Court just reaffirmed that if you are born in America, you belong in America,” he wrote. “For 250 years, America has been a nation made stronger by immigrants. The framers of the Fourteenth Amendment wove that value into our Constitution, affirming that those born on American soil are citizens.
