A judge has ordered that SNAP benefits program cannot stop going out to 42 million Americas amid the government shutdown that has been backed by Democrats in the Senate, and President Donald Trump has said that he will ask the court to clarify how the government can legally pay out SNAP benefits. The Democrat Minority Whip in the House has said that the shutdown has been used by Democrats as "leverage" for them to advance additional policy.

Trump posted to Truth Social, "Our Government lawyers do not think we have the legal authority to pay SNAP with certain monies we have available, and now two Courts have issued conflicting opinions on what we can and cannot do. I do NOT want Americans to go hungry just because the Radical Democrats refuse to do the right thing and REOPEN THE GOVERNMENT. Therefore, I have instructed our lawyers to ask the Court to clarify how we can legally fund SNAP as soon as possible. It is already delayed enough due to the Democrats keeping the Government closed through the monthly payment date and, even if we get immediate guidance, it will unfortunately be delayed while States get the money out."

"If we are given the appropriate legal direction by the Court, it will BE MY HONOR to provide the funding, just like I did with Military and Law Enforcement Pay. The Democrats should quit this charade where they hurt people for their own political reasons, and immediately REOPEN THE GOVERNMENT. If you use SNAP benefits, call the Senate Democrats, and tell them to reopen the Government, NOW! Here is Cryin’ Chuck Schumer’s Office Number: (202) 224-6542," Trump added.

The oral ruling came down on Friday, where Judge Jack McConnell blocked the Trump administration from ending SPAN benefits and ordered that they be paid out "as soon as possible."

“There is no doubt, and it is beyond argument, that irreparable harm will begin to occur if it hasn’t already occurred in the terror it has caused some people about the availability of funding for food for their family," he wrote in the ruling.

The order from the judge comes after the Democrats have voted to keep the government shut down over a dozen times over the last month as GOP senators have proposed a clean continuing resolution (CR) to keep the government funded at normal levels before the shutdown. The largest federal workers union has also called on the Democrats to pass the CR with the GOP in addition to an editorial opinion from the Washington Post.
