Tech entrepreneur and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said that the reason he attended Donald Trump's Pennsylvania rally in Butler, PA, the site of the first assassination attempt against Trump, is that the future of America as well as the "destiny of civilization" depends on the upcoming election.

Musk made the comments to the Washington Examiner in an interview just before speaking to the crowd while wearing an "Occupy Mars" shirt and a black "Make America Great Again" hat. “The reason I’m here is because I think this is the most important election in our lifetime. This may be the most important election that has ever happened,” Musk told the outlet.

“I think President Trump represents the actual path to a democratic future, ironically, because they say he’s a threat to democracy. But, in fact, the ones saying he’s a threat to democracy are the ones who are a threat to democracy in reality."

Within minutes after the July 13 Butler, PA rally, at which Trump was shot and reitred firefighter Corey Comperatore was killed while trying to shielf his family, Musk endorsed Trump for the presidency. Trump had got up immediately after being shot, pumped his fist in the air, and said “Fight! Fight! Fight!” Tech mogul Mark Zuckerberg likewise said after the rally that Trump was "badass."

During his remarks at Butler, Musk told Americans, “The true test of someone's character is how they behave under fire, and we had one president who couldn't climb a flight of stairs and another who was fist pumping after getting shot.”

Musk told reporters that he recognizes that Americans in Bulter and elsewhere around the country that are not located in coastal cities or elite area are those most concerned about free speech as well as gun rights.

“America is about freedom and opportunity. You have to have freedom to speak your mind. What is the First Amendment? Why does it exist? Because in the countries people came from you’d get arrested or killed for speaking your mind. Why is the Second Amendment there? Because you weren’t allowed to own firearms in other countries so they could oppress you. The thing protecting the First Amendment is the Second Amendment."
