"There seems to be great unification. I think Jim Jordan will be a great speaker."
Upon being asked for his thoughts about the current state of the process to find a House Speaker, Trump said of Jordan, "There seems to be great unification. I think Jim Jordan will be a great speaker."
The former president also said Jordan is "pretty young still, and very strong" and additionally has "very proper opinions about our country.
Just after that, a reporter asked Trump if Biden's trip to Israel is "political."
"I think everything he does is political," responded Trump, "and unfortunately everything he does doesn't work out very well. Thank you very much."
Jordan was nominated for the position during a closed-door House meeting on Friday, during which Reps. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY), Dusty Johnson (R-SD) and Kevin Hern (R-OK) proposed his name for consideration.
He won in a vote of 124-81 in a secret ballot against Rep. Austin Scott (R-GA). Then, a second vote showed even more support, with Jordan emerging victorious at 152-55.
Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) had also thrown his hat in the ring, but ultimately pulled his name from the running after he had received a 113-99 vote.
Notable backers of Jordan include Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), Elise Stefanik (R-NY) as well as former President Donald Trump.
