"Negotiations with other countries, which have also requested meetings, will begin taking place immediately."
After threatening to raise tariffs on China by 50 percent if the country does not remove the 34 percent tariffs on US goods, Trump said in a post on Truth Social, "Negotiations with other countries, which have also requested meetings, will begin taking place immediately. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
This comes after multiple countries have said they are willing to come to the table with Trump over trade negotiations with the US. On Monday, European Union leader Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU is ready to offer "zero-for-zero" tariffs on US imports on industrial goods.
Taiwan has said they the country will not be retaliating to the tariffs placed against them by the United States and has indicated that they want to meet with the Trump administration to bring down the tariffs placed against them. In recent weeks, India has also indicated that they are looking to cut a trade deal with the Trump administration.
Other countries have also indicated that they are willing to negotiate different tariff deals with the US. China responded to Trump's move last week to implement his reciprocal tariffs by raising theirs on US goods.
Trump has previously said that he is willing to negotiate trade agreements and lower the reciprocal tariffs if other various countries lower their own trade barriers and tariffs against the US.
